Horizontal Drilling International (HDI) is a contractor specialized, since 1984, in the installation of horizontally drilled crossings under natural or man-made obstacles using « trenchless » technologies.

The construction methods used by HDI are Horizontal Directional Drilling, Microtunneling and Direct Pipe. These methods can be combined in order to provide, for each individual crossing, an efficient solution, respectful of the environment and safe for its personnel as well as for the surrounding community.
HDI frequently crosses under obstacles such as main water courses, railway tracks, highways and sea shores. Numerous unconventional applications are also feasible, such as crossing under airport runways, urban areas, golf courses and sport fields, mountain ridges, and … dump sites.
In order to assess the feasibility of a trenchless crossing and determine the most suitable method, the geology of the site must be evaluated correctly. It is also crucial to identify and locate all underground obstacles. HDI has installed crossings in the most diversified soil conditions, such as the Dutch silty sands, the clay of the Pô valley, the gneiss rock of Rio de Janeiro, the granite of the Niagara River as well as the Dolerite of Johannesburg, and … the Alaskan permafrost.
Our personnel are experienced. From the planning engineer to the driller, they have the proven skills for each specific task they perform. HDI continuously updates its collective knowledge by maintaining a constant exchange of information between the construction teams. Each project is planned and then executed according to the plan. Upon completion, feedback is provided from the construction team to the Management and the Design & Engineering desk. These exchanges assure that each construction team benefits from its counterparts’ experiences.
HDI teams are active in all European countries, in South America, in Africa and in Asia, as main contractor or in partnership with local civil engineering contractors, or eventually as a subcontractor of large international pipeline and offshore contractors.

To date, HDI teams have installed more than 2000 underground crossings, covering more than 2,000 kilometers, in 40 different countries on 5 continents and in the most diverse soil conditions. It is all this experience that the HDI teams are willing to offer to you to make your upcoming projects a success!
Whatever the obstacle to be crossed, whatever the product to be transferred, whatever the geology of the site, there is an HDI solution.
See you soon, then!
